Case Facts:
Terrance
Stargell is serving a sentence of 15-70 years for one count each
of gross sexual imposition, felonious assault, aggravated burglary
and rape. On New Years Day 1987 Stargell broke into the home
of 62-year-old Isabelle Martin. Ms. Martin, who was speech impaired,
lived with her dog “Boo”. After entering the home
Stargell stabbed Boo to death in front of Ms. Martin. Stargell
then bound Ms. Martin and his accomplice began removing items
from her home. While the accomplice was stealing Ms. Martin’s
meager possessions Stargell raped Ms. Martin vaginally, orally
and anally. After assaulting Ms. Martin, Stargell proceeded to
help the accomplice steal all of Ms. Martin’s possessions.
After Stargell left Ms. Martin immediately reported the crime
to police and Stargell was arrested. A jury convicted him in
April 1987.
Although he had 80 conduct
violations Stargell was paroled in 2008. In 2009 Stargell began
stalking a female co-worker. When another co-worker
attempted to intervene, Stargell pulled a knife on him. Stargell
was then returned to prison for violating his parole. Stargell
is once again up for release. Ms. Martin passed away a few years
ago and spent of the remainder of her life haunted by what Terrance
Stargell did to her.
We believe to further the
interests of justice and to protect the community Terrance Stargell
should be required to serve his
maximum sentence of 70 years in prison.
