Case Facts:
John
Dupire is serving a 10-year to 25-year sentence for the offenses
of rape and gross sexual imposition (four counts).
On February 7, 1994 a
36-year-old man entered a restaurant and saw John Dupire
with a little boy. The man immediately recognized Dupire as
the schoolteacher who raped him in a motel during a trip in
1969.
The man then
went to police and advised them Dupire had molested him. The
victim
stated
he went to authorities because "I just saw that little boy.
That could have been me."
Two days later police
began investigating Dupire who was an elementary school physical
education teacher and also a soccer and reserve wrestling coach.
Police interviewed more than 60 people. According to former
Butler County prosecutor
John
Holcomb
there
was a pattern of abuse from 1969-1992. Almost all Dupire's
victims were between 10 and 12 years of age. He targeted single-parent
boys and befriended both the boys and their mothers. He bought
the boys Starter jackets, athletic shoes and took them on vacations
and trips.
In order
to avoid a trial prosecutors allowed Dupire to plead guilty
to
one count
of rape, which occurred in 1982, and four counts of gross
sexual imposition, one for the 1969 victim who reported Dupire
to authorities and also for molesting boys in 1971, 1987 and
1992. According to the Cincinnati Post Dupire admitted molesting
23 boys and according to The Ohio Department of Corrections
Dupire admitted molesting 27 boys. Based on Dupire's history,
and the fact he was molesting boys for 23 years, we believe
that number is likely much higher.
Releasing John Dupire
will present and incredibly high risk to the community and
will endanger any child that comes into contact with him. In
addition, John Dupire was adjudicated by the Butler
County Common Pleas Court to be a sexual predator signifying
he is likely to commit another sexually oriented offense. Based
on
the fact
John
Dupire molested at least 23 defenseless, vulnerable
children
while
in
a position
of trust and
authority, we believe John Dupire should be required to
serve his maximum
sentence
of
25 years
in
prison
for
his
horrific and deplorable crimes.
